June Favourites

1. The Fault in our Stars
I feel like at this point you must have been living under a rock if you haven't at least heard of The Fault in our Stars (or you just don't have to endure being around teenage girls). It is an amazing book which emulates in the film (which i may have had the opportunity to watch at the London premier!) and the soundtrack goes perfectly.

2. Lush's Ultrabland
If you have dry skin I would recommend that you get off your computer, get five pounds and go to your nearest Lush store. Now. This has ended up replacing my whole nighttime routine because it is so good at taking off make up and moisturising with the littlest amount of effort.

3. Britney Spear's Midnight Fantasy
An oldie but a goodie; I've gotten back into using this perfume. It's so light and summery and just smells so nice!

4. (Not so) White Platforms
I have been using these religiously all month. They go with so many clothes and gives me the height of a heel whilst keeping my outfits casual and my ability to walk worthy of walking outside.

5. Astor's Soft Sensation Lipcolor Butter in 005 Pretty Poppy
I've never really owned orange-based lip products but as summer is here I thought I'd invest in one. It's such a pretty colour and is so moisturising. However, I will add that - as with a lot of lip products - it does not last very long.

6. Sleek's Storm Palette
My sister kindly gave me this palette recently. I love the array of colours which are neutrals in mattes and shimmers, making them perfect for both everyday and special events.

7. Kobo Mini
Last year I invested in a ereader but it has just been sitting in my top drawer for most of the year. However, for my English Literature course, I get to chose which books I get to write an essay about next year. Having this has given me the ability to read whatever book I want (well, the ones I'm allowed to write about by my school) without having to lug them around with me the physical copies which I am out and about.

70 Calorie Mug Blueberry Muffin

5 minutes
What You Will Need
  • A mug
  • 3 tablespoons of oatmeal (30 calories)
  • 1/4 of a banana (20 calories)
  • a handful of blueberries (15 calories - unless you have a massive hand).
  • 1 tablespoon of unsweetened almond milk (5 calories) 
  • some water (if needed)
  1. Blend the oatmeal until you get a flour-like consistency. If you want to add a bit more texture, you could leave half not blended and just add it to the mixture. 
  2. In the mug, mash the banana until it turns into a paste.
  3. Add the almond milk to the banana.
  4. Mix the oatmeal with the paste.
  5. If it is a little dry, add some water.
  6. Add the blueberries.
  7. Microwave for a minute or until the mixture looks ready.

Father's Day Gifts

I thought I'd share what I got my Dad for Father's Day tomorrow for anybody who needs a few last minute ideas.
Of course, along with this will come breakfast and - unfortunately - control over the TV. Father's day has definitely been made so it corresponds with the World Cup (oh the joy of 10 hours of football). I'll also be making cupcakes which will be shared only if they don't turn out to be a disaster.
However, my sister and I have bought him a few presents just to show how we love him:

  1. Socks
    My Dad constantly complains about not being able to find pairs of sock (mostly at 7 o'clock in the morning which is never fun). We bought him a packet of plain black socks so, for at least for the next week, he can't complain about his missing socks.
  2. Old Jamaica Chocolate
    My sister and I were thinking of things our Dad likes and a few that we thought of were: rum, raisins and chocolate. When we saw this we thought it would be a perfect little thing to add.
  3. Costa Coffee Filter Coffee
    Another thing my Dad loves is coffee and our trips to Costa. He always says he loves their coffee so we bought him some filter coffee to brighten his mornings.
  4. 'Love You Dad' Mug
    Well, what can I say? I do love my Dad (and it will be perfect to serve the coffee in tomorrow).

I hope I gave you a few ideas for to tell you Dad how much you love him even if you act like a moody teenager who may or may not spend 99% of their time in their room (I'm not at all describing me).

Being Comfortable Without Make Up

Hi I'm Joanne and I am a make up addict.

Over the last year I have become very dependant on make up. I felt like I could not go out without any; I would be late and rushed just to wear some eye-liner. So, over the last month I have been making a change.
If I have the time, I'll do my make up. However, if I don't I will just leave.

I have felt myself become a lot more comfortable in my own skin and slowly my idea of 'no make up' has gone from a full face of make up to actually nothing (although, I must say in the picture above I am wearing my 'brows).

I'd really suggest to give no make up a go. Be comfortable in your skin!

Getting Healthy

Friday marked the official start of spring here in the UK. Whilst it was still cold and miserable - despite the lovely weather we had at the beginning of March - I knew it was time to start being healthy for summer.

For the last few months I have been going to the gym and yes that has made me more active, it has also given me an excuse to maybe eat a bar of chocolate 'because I worked out earlier'. This logic has hindered the whole point of me going to the gym as I have gain a bit of weight (well, I've also been going because I wanted to walk 5 minutes without getting tired which has been pretty successful).

So I've decided that I am going to blog about this, hence making me accountable for if I decide to go off track and eat a McDonalds everyday.  I'll try and keep them as short as possible and fairly regular ( but I will not say how regular because I am awful at keeping a schedule).

The three topics I will talk about are:

What went well

What I could have done better

Overall Evaluation (Have I worked out enough? Did I eat well? How many pounds until my idea weight?)

I don't think I will be disclosing my weight as it's something private and I'm not trying to be stick thin, I just want to be more comfortable with my body again.
